After much discussion, the new British Standard covering repairs to tyres for motor vehicles used on the public highway has now arrived. While the standard is not a mandatory document, it is mandatory for those selling part worn tyres.
For the first time, the standard now recognises by definition a Self-Supporting Tyre (SST) and recognises and accepts that some manufacturers do not recommend the repair of such tyres.
The new standard outlines some small changes to minor repairs along with further recommendations for CV tyres. The standard also specifies that major repairs on car tyres can only be carried out on tyres with a maximum speed rating of V.
