About us

The Retread Manufacturers Association (RMA) was established in 1938 and is the nationally recognised trade association representing the interests of UK-based manufacturers of retreaded tyres.

Our mission statement is as follows:

“The core role of the Retread Manufacturers Association is to ensure that retreads are not prejudiced against. In doing so the Association aims to protect the interests of member companies through liaising with government bodies in the UK and withinEurope to influence legislation, through active PR and the promotion of the retreading industry.”

Our members include retreaders of tyres for passenger cars, taxis, trucks and buses, agricultural equipment and off-road/earthmover equipment.

The RMA’s prime activity is to work with Government bodies, the tyre industry and other interested parties to ensure that:

  • The retreading industry is not adversely affected by new or existing legislation by being involved in the consultation and lobbying process.
  • The retreading industry is not affected by anti-competitive practices and publicity thereby ensuring a level playing field throughout the tyre industry.
  • Members are kept up to date and are provided with advice as and when required on areas affecting their businesses eg health and safety, technical and legislative issues etc.
  • Members have access to specific RMA services such as the RMA’s City and Guilds Part 1 Training Programme.

The RMA is a member of BIPAVER (The European Federation for the Tyre Retreading Industry).
